Hello! It’s been quite some time, huh?
I feel like I haven’t posted anything proper to this site since maybe… 2023? Largely, that’s been because it got really big and overwhelming to work on. This is a static website, plain HTML and CSS. Imagine writing and maintaining ~785 HTML files by hand… it sucks!
So I decided to migrate the site to Eleventy, a static site generator. Essentially, this means I can separate “content” from “layout” using data files and templating languages, making the website easier to add to and maintain.
It’s a really powerful tool!!
And it makes me feel excited about my website again! Suddenly it’s a lot easier to write new blogposts, and upload new comics, and update my layouts/styles.
Actually, a major part of this update is that I’ve made several of my newer comics available onsite! Previously, these three were only available via itch.io:
And now all three are also available to read here, on my website for free <3
There’s new stuff in the zine department, too. But that’s a little harder to summarise, so I’ll leave it up to you to poke around in The Bookshelf for yourself.
The other thing I should note here is that there’ve been a few URL changes. I’ve set up redirects for the pages I could, but if you’ve bookmarked a specific page of a comic/zine, the link will likely be broken now. Sorry.
Generally, the new link format for comic pages is
snail-legs.co.uk/comic-name/1/, if that helps! But sometimes the page numbering is a little funky, particularly when it comes to sketchbooks, eg.OC-2024-5.
We have some new pages, too; The Games Lounge, and The Archives. They’re pretty sparsely-decorated right now, but they’re there! The Snail Log and The Microblog have both made a return too. It’s mostly old posts on there, but I’m hoping to get more use out of them than I did before <3
Speaking of the changelog and microblog, they now both have their own RSS feeds! Changelog RSS, Microblog RSS.
I don’t like to feel spammy, so the main feed is dedicated to more major updates (new comics, blog posts, zines), while these are more specific to categories of posts that might be more frequent & less substantial.
Oh, and the Links page is back too! As with everything, it’s been remade from scratch, so if you’d like to submit a link for consideration, please send me an email! alex@snail-legs.co.uk
There was a lot of link rot in the old list, so the new list is a lot shorter. In time, I’m sure it’ll grow again.
I know this is mostly just a glorified update post, but a lot has changed around the site! I wanted to talk about it, rather than just Coming Back Changed out of the blue.
So, thanks for reading! And thank you to Eleventy, for saving my website from a slow and painful death.
